Yes, Tap on Phone works best when you are paying with one of the phone/gadget payment Apps. Samsung Pay, Apple Pay and all the other OEM Pay solutions are essentially digital versions of your contactless card. Paying with a phone/gadget is faster as both devices are powering the NFC communication.
